Michael Dorn

Director & Actor | Star Trek: the next generation

What can I say about Michael Dorn? A lot, actually. Michael and I were introduced through a mutual friend, and from the outset, he had a clear vision for our photoshoot. We were able to put in a significant amount of prep work before I even arrived in LA, which, as any photographer knows, made the day of the shoot go so much smoother. From wardrobe to lighting, it was evident what we both wanted to achieve.

While I can't share all the photos—as they were shot for projects for Michael that are still on-going—I can tell you this: his attention to detail is not just helpful, it’s refreshing.

We shot in a studio I often use in LA's Fashion District, which offered the flexibility to quickly switch between sets. I made sure to have his favorite root beer waiting for him in the dressing room as an added amenity, where makeup artist Karissa Symmons worked her magic, prepping Michael for the camera (also had Karissa's favorite beverage waiting on her too).

All the prep work we put in beforehand made for a well-executed shoot. Michael brought an infectious energy and maintained his meticulous focus throughout the entire session, turning it into a photoshoot that was more than just successful—it was a blast. I even leaned on his input during post-production to make sure we brought the full potential out of all these images.

Collaborating with someone as engaged and creative as Mr. Dorn was truly a pleasure, and I can only hope future clients bring the same level of energy and collaboration to the table.
