The Marvelous 3

rock band

This was one of those rare occasions where I reached out to a client directly. The Marvelous 3 were playing in Atlanta, where I happened to be working just days before, and I had already planned to attend their show. So while sitting in a diner in LA, it hit me: "Why not pitch a photoshoot?" It seemed silly not to ask! I shot Butch a message, and he was on board right away, prompting me to start making arrangements.

I know from past experience, working with clients on the same day as their performances or filming always presents its challenges—added stress, tighter logistics, and often time constraints. While this doesn’t faze me, some people can complicate things unnecessarily. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with Butch, the tour manager, or the band. Hell, it couldn't have been easier!

Having collaborated with Butch before, I was confident in the energy he would bring, and I expected the same from the rest of the band. That evening, I got to the Tabernacle in Atlanta, set up my studio in the greenroom backstage with my trusty assistant, Bethany, and was ready to roll!

The band arrived right on time, just 45 minutes before showtime. I had 15 minutes for the shoot, but I thought, "Let’s make this happen in 10!" As a former touring drummer, I know how crucial every minute is before a show. I didn’t want them to feel rushed, so I figured if we could fit it into 15 minutes, we could definitely do it in 10.

This quick shoot turned out to be a blast. With great attitudes, plenty of jokes, and some fantastic shots, it felt like we had hours, not just minutes.

Writing this, I just realized I have solo artists, but this is the first full band I’ve featured on my website, and I couldn’t be happier that it’s them. They’re amazing people, make incredible music, and put on a fantastic show. Looking forward in working with them again, I still have plenty of ideas for them in the cooker.
